First off, let me just say, thank you for sticking with me for 100 posts! This is a proud moment for me, and I only plan to continue giving you great content as the weeks continue to pass. Here’s to hoping the next 100 blogs are smoother and improving!
Alright, if you hadn’t read the rules yet, then do that first. However, I might bend the rules for this specific installment and recycle a brother or two, but I’ll try not to. Without further ado, let’s get started!
Betrayal. Out of the gate, we get to a hard one. However, I just might give this to Kaname or Fuuto. On one hand, Kaname is a monk who doesn’t really stay true to being a monk; his entire temple is basically a red-light district, and like Ukyo said, “You can be a man of faith or a gentleman of the night, but you can’t be both at the same time.” after which, Ukyo smacks Kaname upside the head with a frying pan (which should get Kaname to the hospital and Ukyo arrested for assault, but hey, if it’s for laughs, then who cares?). On the other hand, Fuuto gives mixed signals for his intentions, for example, in episode 12.5, Fuuto has the purest thoughts and intentions, but his daydream is…less than pure. Still…I think Kaname should get this one.
Cruelty. Now, this is for Fuuto without a doubt. Ever since he first met Chii, he’s nothing but rude, selfish, and arrogant. He’s not only needlessly cruel to Chii, but also Yusuke, the twins, and just about all the brothers other than Louis (I guess it is hard to hate Louis, further proof that Louis is Kindness; just like Fluttershy, Louis is too cute and nice to be mean to).
Deceit. I remember when I first saw episode one of Brothers Conflict and Iori was introduced; I literally said “Hello Canada.” I assumed that, judging by the way he looks and acts, he’d have more in common with Canada than just English voice actor. Imagine my surprise when I found out that Iori is a yandere, the only brother in the games who can have a bad ending, and the only brother in the games who MURDERS IN COLD BLOOD! I think you already see where I’m going with this. For looking and acting like a flower as delicate as those in the garden he tends to, while being a yandere in truth, Iori takes the spot for Deceit.
Dispair. This one is harder because all the brothers try to not dampen the mood, all for Chii’s sake. However, Yusuke is the only one who fails the most. From denying that Chii is a member of his family, to out-right telling Natsume to ski off a cliff, Yusuke is the best at being the biggest wet blanket ever.
Greed. Another hard one because all the brothers are greedy for Chii’s affection, though almost none of them show any other type of greed. However, Subaru is obsessively greedy to be the center of Chii’s attention AND consume her time with his basketball nonsense. In my group of friends, we call Subaru “Troy Bolton” (if anyone remembers High School Musical) because of his need to control almost every aspect of Chii’s life. The biggest example I have is in the Valintine’s OVA, Subaru daydreams about being a professional basketball player and convincing Chii to give up her whole life to do all this traveling with him. Also, when he does become a REAL pro player, he convinces her to become stagnant and wait for him to come home.
Magic. Here’s where I’m bending the rules, but you should’ve seen this one coming. Hikaru, though what I said last week was true (that he does have a lot of interest in learning everything he can about his family), he uses that knowledge to provoke the conflict. Example, he found out about Azusa confessing his love to Chii on the rooftop of the hospital, and he used that knowledge to pick a fight and embarrass him to all hell. In the same scene, he reveals that he found out Natsume did the same thing while Chii was vulnerable and emotional, effectively doing the same to the other brother.
Time for roll-call~! Betrayal: Kaname. Cruelty: Fuuto. Deceit: Iori. Dispair: Yusuke. Greed: Subaru. Magic: Hikaru.
Do you agree? Disagree? Leave your thoughts in the comments and have a beautiful rest of your day~!
