Okay, this is another blog that’s going to take a serious turn, however, it’s something, I feel, needs to be said.
Why is it, when we see a bully, we feel like we gain a probable cause to do the same to them?
On February 4th, MatPat from Game Theory posted a theory on W.D. Gaster from Undertale. Before he started talking about the theory, he “pulled the curtain” and talked through the camera instead of to the camera. If you want to see it, here’s a link to the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wzxbR5vfjE) but I’ll summarize it. When talking about Undertale, he seems to get hate more than normal in the comments and feedback. Because of that, he’s AFRAID to talk about Undertale.
Curious, I looked at the comments and was no short of shocked when I saw comments cussing him out and suggesting suicide. The replies to those comments are even more shocking. Loyal Theorists were leaving replies ranging from “Bitter much?” to “Suicide is still an option”. You don’t just say that.
The old saying of “If you fight fire with fire, you get a bigger fire” cannot be more relevant and correct. Just like what I said in “#LivesMatter”, everyone’s life matters, this includes MatPat, loyal Theorists, AND Haters. I’m not sure anyone, even Haters, know this but the reason Haters hate is because Haters are angry because they’re out of the loop and don’t understand what everyone else apparently does.
I’m not going to pretend that I know all and see all, so I’ll get off my soapbox in a moment. First, just know that I have no idea how to handle a Hater, or even a bully, without trying to give them a taste of their own medicine. Hell, even I’m guilty of doing that with my school bullies. However, Undertale might know a strategy. Try giving the Haters and bullies “Mercy”. That’s the whole point of the game, choosing to “Fight” or “Mercy” against each enemy. Rather than trying to “turn the tables” or “give them a taste of their own medicine”, you should try to “walk a mile in each other’s shoes”.
Alright, I’m done standing on my soapbox. Though, sorry for being depressing and serious for this blog. I won’t promise that this won’t happen again, since this is the second time I’ve done this, but I will promise that this won’t be the norm. I want this website to be an escape from the real world and a doorway to the worlds of Disney, anime, My Little Pony, and video games. I hope you have a beautiful rest of your day~!
