…I’m saying this right now. When I first heard that the new baby to Shining Armor and Princess Mi Amore Cadenza (AKA Cadence) was going to be an alicorn, I thought it was horrible. I was on the bandwagon and said that having an alicorn baby would be too overpowered; she’d be just a Mary Sue; the writers should’ve made the baby either a pegasus or unicorn, blah blah blah. Then I watched Lily Peet’s video on the matter. (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dBTwTPcIoo) To sum up the video, alicorns aren’t as unique as the fandom (or Lauren Faust) has built them up to be, and the only way the audience will learn more about alicorns as a race is if they were in more abundance.
Rewatching the teaser for the episode, and the episode itself, I saw less of alicorns being god-like and more of alicorns, namely the Royal Sisters, actually repopulating the alicorn race. I mean, think about it! They were the first alicorns everyone knows of, then Cadence was turned into an alicorn in the comics, then Twilight was made an alicorn, now we have a baby alicorn and rumors are floating that the rest of the mane six are going to ascend to alicorn status. The alicorns are growing in numbers, and that’s not all that bad. Just like in Lily Peet’s video, “In the original trilogy (of Star Wars), Jedi were rare…There was Luke, and that’s about it. As such, people made the assumption that being a Jedi was a really special thing that only the most perfect, special snowflake could get to be…The prequel trilogy came out, showing Jedi were very abundant.” Just like with the Jedi, the alicorns growing in numbers is specifically what the alicorns want.
…However, as soon as Twilight gets Flash all for herself, we’re going to do the same song and dance.
